Bernardine Marie Walter

Bernardine M. Walter, born August 29, 1944, was called home to the Lord on June 5, 2026.

Bernardine was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Louise Walter, four siblings, Jerry, Laura, Charlie, and Richard Walter. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Kantz, grandson, Michael Thomas, siblings, Pamela Wermuth (Chris Galgano), Margaret Walter, Susan Wilson (David), Kevin Walter (Brenda), Edward Walter (Joan), and Annette Smith, as well as beloved double-cousin, Eileen Franks (Don). Multiple extended family mourns her passing.

Bernardine taught in the Indiana school system for 35 years before taking early retirement and traveling the country. She and her husband, Neil Stilwell, traveled all over to various horse farms following their passion.

Eventually, she settled down in Leslie, Arkansas, but still loved to travel when she could. In 2017, she moved to Ontario, California to live with her daughter and grandson, creating a very loving home environment for the last nine years of her life.

Bernardine loved to sew and quilt, as well as participate in various ministries at her church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Community, in Ontario. She served in multiple roles for the Columbiettes and just completed her term as past-president. She was a lector, proclaiming the Word of the Lord, as well as a participant in Share the Blessings, helping the less fortunate in the community. She also taught religious education for a short time to prepare the youth for their sacramental journey.

She was well loved and loved well. She will be missed.
